found my way back up that water slide and found the Hylian letter Y
these cogwheel puzzle hallways are really cool... they're sorta the same on both sides, except with slight variations. the left side has a those horizontal cogwheel platforms again but over a giant pit with only a few tiny platforms and a lot of hookshot targets/vines... then the vertical cogwheel maze hallway has a lot of treasure chests hidden away that you might easily miss if you didn't get the compass on the left side water slide...
also wtf at how pathetically easy the combat in this game is... fuckin Lizalfols go down in one sword spin attack before they even get a chance to do anything... or maybe that's just because I'm knocking them off the cogwheel with my sword spin and killing them that way, but still.
and then there's a really confusing underwater maze room... got through the bottom paths which just lead to rupees and the boss chest on an unreachable platform... then went back and found the way through the upper path, ended up above the hole that leads to that boss key chest...
and now I got the water flowing into that right side 1F room where I needed the bridge raised... and this is for the key that is needed just to get into the center tower/pillar of the temple, where the boss door is... so really this is the real boss key... lol there's just a dumb non-puzzle and a lizalfos guarding it.. I was wrong about them going down in one hit actually. I sword spinned it 3 times from safely behind the wall, and then it got stuck behind some jars and couldn't get out. I could walk right up to it and it wouldn't attack me... xfd this game
I really, really like this level... I mean it's easy if you know what your doing, but still I really admire the overall design of it just from an artistic perspective. Also what's really cool about it is that the game never really goes out of its way to teach you about the techniques you need to know to be able to clear this temple. Like say if this was your first Zelda game, you'd probably have a LOT of trouble with this level if you just went straight through the Lanayru pre-temple events without stopping to do all the optional things that are available... like going and buying water bombs from Kakariko and learning how to use them in the light spirit springs, instead of buying them from the zora before the temple and not knowing how to use them right away... or learning to use your bomb arrows before doing the boat minigame so that you get some extra rewards... and backtracking through this temple and using your hookshot everywhere before going straight for the boss key/boss helps you learn how to use your clawshot better and know what you can and can't use it on... etc
anyway where was i... oh wait, that side area was just for a heart piece? well I got my 8th heart container now... but where's the key I need?
