|This game uses the same futuristic redesign as the last PSX game... in fact it's eve the exact same story as the PSX one, just using slideshows instead of FMV cutscenes. But the gameplay mechanics are extremely simplified and the stages and bosses are entirely different.|
It's... not a very good game. The platforming in this is just generic, boring flat designs that you'd expect to see in an early 90's NES game. I guess it's kinda similar to the last GBC Goemon game that also had very simplified NES-style platforming, but that one actually had some charm to it despite being so generic. This one is a step below that.
You can only play as Goemon and Ebisu most of the time, and they play exactly the same except for their different weapons. There's a couple of underwater maze stages where you play as Yui, and there's a flying/shooting stage where you play as Sasuke.. There's also a couple of really weird stages that rotate around constantly like the Sonic 1 special stages, they're more annoying than anything.
This game has a couple of Impact battles, that are very simplified just like the were on GBC. I didn't find them difficult at all... The non-impact bosses are actually fairly hard if you don't stock up on items, but I had no trouble beating them after going back to get fully armored up.
This is a worse game than the PSX one in pretty much all aspects. It only took like 2 hours to beat so whatever... Oh yeah this game also seems to have some optional sidequest stuff in towns that I'm not sure how to complete.. but the game isn't translated so we'll never know how to beat those I guess.
