|Area 5 Carrot Castle part 2|
It's weird how the inside of Carrot Castle at the left of the map is practically all of the area, but there's still a couple paths to the right with the wooded area outside of the castle as its background.
Oh yeah I forgot what a confusing door maze the inside of Carrot Castle is... first of all I'll take the door that requires something like Beam since I have Beam right now. This leads to a dead end room with a chest, cool. But that room isn't cleared yet, there's another entrance into another dead-end room within this square from the upper path through Carrot Castle. I've been through the upper path before to get to the Area 7 warpstar square and the... big square and boss (oh, is that a hub door? if so then yeah I can definitely not see that other big square on the bottom one-way path to the boss also a hub door square). I may as well take the upper path
Okay well I found once chest on the upper castle path, but couldn't find the other dead end room in that middle square.
Back at the choice of 3 downward wind gusts in the golden clouds part of the castle. This place is close to the Area 7 warpstar square, but there's also an unvisited path down from here. I suspect that there's 2 ways forward and only one of them includes the chest. I'll try the middle. This leads down to a confusing linear series of doors warping you around the room before finally taking you down to the unvisited square. I can see the chest here but I think you need to find another door to get down there? unless there's an ability that can hit the bomb block down there... grey kirby up ahead gives me a 1up if I attack him before he runs away... and now in the bottom Area 5 path.
Continued on to one of the bottom castle squares... a choice of like 8 paths from a DKC barrel... first I shot down to go to the big square with a heart container chest... and looks like the other cannon paths that aren't the left door path are just dead end rooms where you have to find the door to get back to the DKC barrel. That's kind of a neat design.
After that is a an autocannon room with 2 paths through through the room to choose from. one of the paths has healing and lives while the other path has batteries. Okay so no the only things left in Area 5 Carrot Castle are the one unvisited square on the bottom path and the 2nd entrance to the middle room that I still need to find.
That last bottom square doesn't have a chest, it's just another way to get to the boss and the heart container. It's a DKC barrel maze with spikes everywhere. I guess there's probably some battery or food or life prizes you can find if you go the right way idk... oh shit, actually taking this route to the boss is actually much harder. on the middle square from the top route, this room is really easy to go through since you get an invincibility candy on the room before it, you don't get that on this room and have to dodge all the gordos in this long low-spike-ceiling hallway.
hmm... I dunno, I'm actually kinda stuck on these last two chests in the 2 middle squares of Carrot Castle. Guess I'm just gonna start Area 6 now. Starting with the bottom transition square in Area 2 Moonlight Mansion.
This path to Area 6 goes through like a science lab basement. It requires bringing something to go through grey blocks (by now I've memorized which hub door has a fireball copy essence in it).
oh wait damn... this is another one-way wind gust path blocked from this side until you hit a switch, just like that one Area 8 transition I found. Okay so maybe that Area 6 hub transion room in the bottom right corner of Cabbage Cavern IS accessible already? I don't see any other way of getting to Area 6 (although it's possible you need to get there from Area 7 or 8?)
Opened the last Area 3 hub door. This is the door on the bottom right of the hub.This might be the only one that lets you get to Area 6 right away from the starting point. I still see room for at least 3 or 4 more hub doors.
Area 6 Olive Ocean
This first part of Olive Ocean is in some Wonder Boy like outdoor mountain/island area. I see a not very well hidden door during this first linear section, and from my understanding of Kirby level design philosophy this is probably... yep, a dead end room with a chest. This dead-end room is in part of a really pretty looking water cave area.
Next there's a really simple hilly outdoor area that goes up vertically a lot, but there isn't anything in the sky besides flying enemies... and nothing but shotzas on the ground... and again a door that's part of the way through a linear room. But in this case, the path beyond looks a bit less obvious so I went that way first and it ended up being a one-way path to the next square to the right... Then into the proper water cave section...
It's getting more confusing now... in a dry part of the cave I went through a cannon puzzle path, which lead to another outdoor area... right again... an outdoor room with a wheel enemy.. Oh shit it's a big square... this might be where the map is... nope it's just a goal square.
Huh... tried out that one other door in the linear outdoor Area 6 section, and apparently it doesn't even lead to a chest, it's just another way forward towards the goal square?
Back to the underwater cave part of Area 6... skipped the fire cannon, now in a waterfall cave... damn I need to go through here again later when I have something that can hit a more distant bomb block than the Beam can... or something.
I found a 2nd Area 6 hub switch room... it leads to the Cabbage Cavern big square that also had a non-framed door to Area 6 (one that I originally started this whole section from). That switch room still continues on right, but first now that I have quick access between this water cave and Rainbow Route, I can look for the power I need to get that chest and go get it right now. Oh wait nevermind you didn't need anything, you just needed to go back into that room from the switch hub room side.
The next room to the right in the water cave... there's an enemy door that I missed and another door right past that, and a lower path leading to another door... tried the lower door first, it leads to a one-way water current path...
Sweet, found the map room while on this one-way path to the boss square! Needed a hammer, and the game gave me a Bonkers in that exact room. Looks like both of the other doors in that previous room also potentially lead to the boss... only the upper right path is a non-one-way path that also leads to the Goal square and the Moonlight Mansion transition square at the top right of Area 6... I should go there next after beating this boss, and prioritize trying to hit that switch to open another way into Olive Ocean.
The whole left side of Area 6 is already done by the time I got this map, except for the one chest I missed on the way to the 1st Goal square of this area.
On this lower linear underwater path to the boss square, you get to break through grey blocks if you have the hammer but all there is to find is food and lives.
This shark boss "Gobbler" is really hard to hit with the Hammer or Sword... maybe it's doable if you know the timing of the minimum time he'll wait in between moves, but it seems tight. It's pretty easy with vanilla kirby though. Even easier with bomb kirby.
Went back to the underwater hub switch room... this time I killed the door enemy and took the middle-right one-way path to the boss, which passes through a big square room with a heart container chest and some easy cutter puzzles above water sections... Lastly on this path there's a square that has a choice between going through the door to the top right square which splits between the left path, the Area 2 transition square, and the 2nd goal, or take 1 of 4 downward water current paths down to the boss path. No reason to go down that way I guess.
Now I'm in the top right square that splits 3 ways... The square to the left is just a linear swimming room with fish and gordos and spikes in very tight hallways... no treasure in this direction. It's just another way of getting to this 3-way split room. To go on the other 2 splits you need something to go through grey blocks, and the room gives you a fireball enemy right there. Cuz yeah clearly this is just a goal/shortcut path maybe with one or a few treasures on the way to the goal square, and a treasure in that Area 2 transition room.
Hmm... two one-way floors up ahead. I'll take the way that looks like it leads to the area 2 transition square first. yeah and that's not even really one-way, cool.
The goal square has a chest in it... I have the choice of an ice ability and a fire ability, and a choice of right and left. well the paths didn't matter, but I did need freeze ability to get this chest.
Now for those 2 non-flashing squares at the golden cloud part of Carrot Castle... I happened to find one of these chests on accident by falling down a pit that has star blocks spikes sandwiching a gordo between it. Then uh... I still don't quite know how to get that 1 remaining chest in the middle of Carrot Castle... my only guess is... maybe if you freeze the grey kirby and then kick the ice block of him over towards the bomb block? huh... well that could've been it, but I don't know if it's possible to keep up with the ice block so that it's still on screen when you get to the bomb block. I dunno...
