May as well finally finish off Area 2. There's still that goal room with a treasure I never got to. It requires using multiple Kirbys to move a big stone block out of the way. Oh wait what the hell... there's still another treasure chest in that goal room I haven't gotten... this one is weird. The next square after that has multiple ways back to the goal room... at first it seems like the map is lying to you and it's a one-way path, but there's a lower uturn path that goes back to the goal room in a couple different ways, and one of the ways leads to another treasure... and I took the wrong one which was a one-way path to the Goal minigame door. damn... have to come back here again.
There... and then lastly there's the path to a star-icon Area 9 square at the top right of Area 2 to check out. Had to grab a fireball from the Cabbage Cavern hub switch room and keep it through a few squares... It's really hard sometimes to actually utilize fireball to go faster through sections unless you're really careful or know exactly where the safe spots are... since the fireball puts you into a huge vulnerability state at a part of the screen that you can't quite see from where you start the fireball move.
This area is inside a violet brick building, with dark red background wallpaper in some parts and blue starry wallpaper in other parts. Inside the Moonlight Mansion itself. In this last small square before the big Area 9 starred transition square, you actually exit the building on that same screen and return to the spooky forest background... oh and I like how on the Area map screen, the background shows a more scenic view of the forest and mansion, a lot like how the world 2 map in Kirby's Adventure shows the start of Butter Building near the end.
Damn I missed a treasure though. Needed to keep a Fireball or Hammer still, all the way to the end of this Moonlight Mansion path... oh wait no, the game was nice this time, and it makes it so if you don't have something to go through grey blocks, it forces you back into a part of the previous square with a fireball enemy.
hmm... apparently this part of Candy Constellation is connected to a previous Candy Constellation area that I was in before... so those star icon squares aren't quite what I originally thought they meant... I think the star icon might just mean there's a warp star taking you to another area rather than an area door linking to the hub like all the other big squares mean. The big star icon squares are like normal small square rooms, except they have a warp star going to another area in them.
So that means whatever I do while I'm here in Area 9 is just extra. I'm not focusing on Area 9 right now. I'm just here because it was close by after I finished 100% completing Area 2. Even though there's a central warp hub that you can go to instantly any time, it's still a Metroidvania after all. If I happen to find the map of an area that I dip into early, great I hate the searching for a map part. the map makes exploration so much easier.
...but it seems like there's nothing I can do from here it seems. The bottom left corner square of Area 9 that I can get to just leads to a square over on the right that I've been to before. And there's nothing else I can do from this part of Area 9 it seems.
Now everything up to Area 4 is 100% completed. Area 5 I'm about 50% completed... oh and the big square in Area 3 that transitions to Area 6 I haven't been to yet either. Actually I'm pretty sure that square only unlocks after you come to Area 3 from Area 6... And starting with Area 6, these final 4 areas have no way of getting to them from Rainbow Route, the area with all the hub doors easily accessible at any time. Although Area 6 is kinda close by, with ways into them near the hub squares of Areas 2 and 3. Areas 7 and 8, which only have a couple transition doors to them from pretty far away points on Areas 3 and 5 that are about as far away as the boss squares for those areas... I can see the design aspect of each successive world at least seeming "bigger" in the sense of having their entrances getting further and further away and harder to get to as the area number goes up. Area 9 transition doors are always a huge pain to get to from what I've seen.
Right so I still need to take that Area 2 world 9 path again eventually for a chest, but for now I'll move onto clearing Area 5 Carrot Castle. I see one visited square where I'm missing a chest, a bunch of potentially chest-containing unvisited squares, and an unvisited big unmarked square which means either new hub door or big chest. Actually it's gotta be a big chest because that place isn't useful as a hub door at all except to get you back to the boss room faster in case you run out of lives attempting that boss or something. So yeah just nothing but chests to find in Carrot Castle. And then from here I'll randomly roam Areas 6, 7, 8, and 9 until I find a map in one of them in order to be able to plan a route without having to memorize individual rooms and their door connections.
one of the unvisited Area 8 squares is just an automatically-ending short autoscroll screen going into Area 8 Radish Ruins. okay then. But this part of Radish Ruins it leads you to is closed off for now until you hit the switch from the other side... so this isn't actually a way into Area 8 at all at first... Well at least now I finally have all 9 areas in my visited inventory. just need the maps for the last 4 of them and I can easily tear through the rest of this game... It's just getting those maps that's the hard part... and the bosses in this game are another kinda hard part depending on whether you use an ability that's really good against it or not.
