|Episode 30 - Nova and Regalia, Rune-God of the Devil|
This is the best episode of the series yet.
Nova immediately starts fighting Hikaru after she introduces herself. She's really obssessed with Hikaru is getting pure joy out of beating her down... Nova explains that she is from Cephiro, and that Lady Debonair is her mother... But that's all the info you get before the battle starts for real. She blocks Hikaru's Flame Arrow attack easily and then uses that same attack against her... Then Nova gets out her Rune-God, Regalia, and Hikaru gets into Rayearth, and they continue their fight in Rune-God forms.
Fuu and Umi see Rayearth fighting another Rune-God as they're flying around, and they go down to help out Hikaru. Nova wants to destroy Hikaru's friends just as much as she wants to kill Hikaru, and her passion and determination towards this goal is the same as Hikaru's when it comes to saving her friends and saving Cephiro.
To even the odds, Nova does something to put them all in a different dimension. The Rune-Gods don't recognize this dimension they're in... This dimension weakens their powers or something... Nova has started explaining more of the plot now that the battle has gotten less intense...
Soon Cephiro will belong to my mother!
Mother Debonair has been waiting for the Pillar to disappear from Cephiro... and for everyone here to lose to the uncertainty and fear in their own hearts!
Then suddenly, Debonair shows up in a gigantic, frighteningly powerful aura... She reads Hikaru's thoughts and says
Yes. I am the one who appeared in your dreams.
To me, seeing into someone's heart is trivial... girl from another world.
The legendary Magic Knights that are said to save Cephiro. My existence is wished for by those in the land of Cephiro.
The time of ruin is near. Everything in the land will die out in a span of time as short as grains of sand are small. My wish is complete annihilation, an absolute darkness. An elegant void.
For that purpose, the legend of the Magic Knights... is in the way!
She then talks to her daughter Nova, and reaffirms that she wants to see the blood of the Magic Knights, and especially Hikaru's.
My dear Nova. Crush the legend of the Magic Knights... that even the Pillar of Cephiro couldn't.
As Debonair vanishes, she says
I am right beside all of you. I will wait for your deaths from here. I will wait for everything in this land, Cephiro, to die out.
This villain is so much more creepy and devilish than Zagato, holy shit.
Nova continues her assault.
Hikaru, I love you. But... Everything you love, Hikaru, I hate!
Fuu and Umi's attacks both do nothing to Nova, and Hikaru gets hit by a really strong blast that takes out Rayearth and makes her lose her magic armor... And instead of finishing the job, Nova decides to let them live for now and tells Hikaru she wants to fight her again once she becomes stronger.
This is intense... it's the first time the Magic Knights have ever suffered a defeat. Unlike in the first season where they seemed invincible, the tone of this season has gotten way more dire and serious now... And the music during this scene here is really good too, it's like a more dark and grim version of the main victory theme from the first season. This is so good...
Clef is really shook by what he sensed just now.
What was that evil presence? That evil presence that seems to cover all of Cephiro...
Lantis sensed it too.
Beside... Right beside Cephiro... No. I felt the presence from Cephiro itself.
Eagle has no idea what's going on, and asks if Hikaru disappearing has anything to do with Cephiro's magic. Lantis says that he doesn't like that Cephiro relies on its Pillar system to survive... Him and Eagle seem to both reluctantly affirm that they are enemies of each other now, and Lantis leaves after saying he doesn't want to fight with him.
