|Now I'm kinda stuck on where to go, and just wandering around aimlessly. The first new thing I found was a side area in Fog Canyon and Fungal Wastes that is only accessible after you can swim in hot water. This lead to a really tough room in Fog Canyon that's full of eggs with explosives in them. The only safe way to get through is to destroy the eggs from a distance with your projectile attack. There's a charm notch in this room... nothing that'll help me progress, but it's a decent reward.|
This Fog Canyon area that I'm in keeps expanding further after that side room... I have no map and have no idea where I'm going, so right now I'm just following along a wall. Oh... wow, I found Cornifer finally... This is how you get to the other side of that black barrier in Fog Canyon. And now I see where the 3rd dreamer mask is, and after that there's not much else to do in Fog Canyon that I haven't already done yet it seems.
Got to Teacher's Archives... And also to the left there's a shortcut I can open up from here to get back to the left half of Fog Canyon and Queen's Station. There's a whole indoor section here that's like a huge science lab building... Eventually I get to a big jellyfish boss, and the NPC I just met outside of this building shows up to help me fight it. This boss was really easy...
The 3rd dreamer mask seal has been destroyed... now I could probably go back to Resting Grounds and see if anything different is going on there, but I still see a few unexplored paths in Fog Canyon, Greenpath, and Fungal Wastes.
Oh yeah, actually the Greenpath area isn't accessible from this side at all. The area at the leftmost side of Fog Canyon that looks like it transitions into another part of Greenpath I hadn't been to yet, this actually leads to a new region called Queen's Garden. There's a shortcut from here going up to the Overgrown Mound part of Fog Canyon, and then an NPC I met earlier going further left.
Queen's Garden didn't take too long to fully explore. All the enemies in here I recognized from having played the colosseum trials. I mostly only found some worms and another ghost boss fight that was really easy... it was like a ball-catching minigame more than a boss fight... and I also found the last Stag Station. The stag beetle now lets me go to a new area, Stag Nest.
Oh and I also found paths into the top of Deepnest and the bottom left of Greenpath, and this is where I found the last dream essence tree. I only need 6 more dream essences now before I can get the reward for collecting 1200 of them. Other than that there's still at least 2 heart pieces, 1 soul meter piece, and 13 charms left to find. Oh and there was this one area in Queen's Garden blocked by a black barrier that I still don't know how to get to... and there's the path near the bottom right of Deepnest that is also blocked by a black barrier... By now I'm pretty sure these barriers are just impenetrable and there's always another way around to the other side of them. I have no idea about these ones though. Maybe the Stag Nest will have an answer? I guess I'm still not at the point where I need to look up a guide...
Before going to Stag Nest, I had a feeling about the Lake of Unn place at the top left of Greenpath... and it turns out there's a charm I can get there now with the ability to swim in acid water... plus there's a rare enemy there that I hadn't gotten yet.
The bell at the Stag Nest stag station isn't working... so I guess that means there are no connections between this area and the other areas, and the Stag Beetle is your only way out.
huh... is that it? Stag Nest is just a really short area with no enemies... the last soul container piece is here, and there's an empty eggshell... and it exits out to the top left of Howling Cliffs. There must be something I'm not getting.
Oh, and I went back to King's Pass and found a charm there that I somehow never found before... so now I'm only missing 12 charms.
okay... I guess that's it then. There's nothing else I can think of besides just going to the Temple of the Black Egg and ending the game. I was never able to find enough Pale Ores for the next nail upgrade either... but I'm pretty sure I can beat it.
Completion % unlocked... 82% is what I managed to achieve without a guide... I could probably get more than that if I just spent some more time wandering aimlessly looking for new paths and stuff that I forgot about... I bet if I were to start a new game and attempt 100% again from scratch, I could do it much more efficiently this time, and mark down all the places that I know I'll need to return to so that I don't forget.
That Hollow Knight boss took me a few tries, but wasn't too hard. The attack patterns in its later phases get really dumb. Got 82% completion in 30 hours.
lol I can already tell I'm never gonna get all of these achievements. The Steel Soul 100% one especially.
I guess I'll use a guide to clean up and get 100% on this file, and then some other time when I feel like coming back to this game, I'll start a new file and try going for a 100% speedrun. This game seems like it'd be really fun to route out speedruns for.
