|Episode 12 - The Fearsome Illusionist Caldina|
Caldina and Ascot follow the Magic Knights as they are trying to get back to that floating mountain that Mokona wants them to get to. They don't have a flying machine anymore, so now they have to climb a huge cliff to get up there. As they get part of the way up, they start to hallucinate and think that the ground is wobbling and that boulders are falling down on them, and they jump back down to the bottom.
Hikaru is the first to realize that they're being tricked by an illusion, and she stands and faces a tree that falls on her to prove it.
But then they get tricked by an even dumber illusion. They go into a cave, and then they hear someone's voice, and it turns out to be Clef, and he tells them that he's rescued Princess Emeraude and she wants to see them now. Fuu at least thinks this is strange, but is still fooled by Caldina's trap...
The princess and the others turn into illusory monsters, and it doesn't take long then before Hikaru figures out that these monsters aren't real, and they only need to close their eyes to defeat them. But then Umi opens her eyes out of fear and restarts the illusion, and then runs away and ends up falling off a cliff. The others go after her and fall trying to save her.
Holy shit... Caldina actually comes way closer to defeating the Magic Knights than anyone else so far. While they're injured and unconscious on the ground, she drops a real boulder down onto them, and Mokona goes and tries to wake them up. Mokona manages to wake up Umi just barely on time, and she doesn't think for a second that this boulder is and illusion, and destroys it with her sword. I guess they are still okay after that fall because of their armor.
Caldina somehow gets hit by the exploding shards of the boulder, and then she asks Ascot to go and finish the job for her. Ascot starts summoning a bunch of monsters to fight the knights. Umi takes out the first one easily, but then starts to get overwhelmed. Then when the monsters pick up Hikaru and Fuu and are about to tear off their limbs, Umi yells really loudly and then runs up to Ascot and points her sword at him to force him to let them go... Wow, they sure are lucky that Ascot wasn't smart enough to keep a safe distance away from Umi.
Fuu and Hikaru are conscious again now, and the knights confront Ascot and get him to explain that he just wants to live in the castle with his friends... Umi slaps him and calls him out for making his friends risk their lives for him, and then she manages to convince him that the best way to peacefully live with his friends is to stop working for Zagato.
