|Episode 10 - Revival of Selece, the Legendary Rune-God|
Ascot summons a giant monster from out of the ocean, and tells him that his friends were killed by the Magic Knights to get him to obey, but it doesn't work, so he starts controlling the monster with his magic instead.
Mokona leads the knights to a lake, and says that the Rune-God is down below. Mokona brings out a magic bubble capsule thing they can use to explore the depths of the lake. They get to an underwater shrine, and Umi starts to feel weird... As they step out into the shrine, Umi is acting like she knows this place.
This is the Water Shrine. The Rune-God is here.
Umi goes ahead on her own, and when the others catch up to her, she's staring at what looks like a giant wall painting of a blue dragon, and glowing... I think she's started the Rune-God revival already. The dragon starts emerging from the wall.
My name is Selece. I am the legendary Rune-God... that only the legendary Magic Knight may touch.
Fuu and Hikaru get booted out of the dragon room and the door closes on them, but Mokona assures them that Umi is okay and this is all part of reviving the Rune-God... Then Ascot's monster approaches them. With Ascot controlling the monster, he talks to the Magic Knights for the first time, telling them that they killed his friends.
I wonder what Alcyone was doing, losing to girls like you.
Then you're friends with her?
Friends? That hag isn't even close to being my friend. My friends are all beasts.
While Hikaru and Fuu are getting beat up, the Rune-God is having a conversation with Umi.
Girl summoned from another world to become a Magic Knight. Show before me proof that thy power makes thee worthy of donning me.
Show before me thy powers. Show before me the strength of thine heart... that makes thee worthy of becoming a legendary Magic Knight.
Strength of... my heart...
Fuu figures out that the enemy's voice is coming from the gem on the monster's forehead, and tells Hikaru to aim for that. This makes Ascot lose his control over the monster, and he's forced to show himself.
I thought the voice was too cute to be Mr. Beast's.
Y-You guys are cruel! You're cruel! Look what you did to my friend!
He starts going on about how nobody understands his friendship with these beasts, and he's the only one who understands them. But then Hikaru argues that he's not friendly with them at all.
How can you make your friends attack us? Are you all right with us wounding or defeating your friends?
I-I'm not all right with it.
Aren't you sad if your friends get hurt? Don't you feel like helping your friends when they're in danger? If you don't hold your friends dear, what do you hold dear?
The monster Capella gets up and starts attacking everyone, including Ascot, and then busts through the door to the Rune-God room.
Umi wants to help the others fight against the monster, but the Rune-God keeps telling her "Show before me the strength of thine heart," and says that she can't defeat this monster, and she must let her friends sacrifice themselves so she can survive to fight Zagato.
Well that doesn't make sense. How can she defeat Zagato and save Princess Emeraude if she can't even help out in this fight? Maybe the Rune-God is testing her?
Umi disobeys the dragon, and goes to attack with her Water Dragon spell. The monster retaliates with a wind attack against Umi, and Fuu blocks it with a new barrier spell, Winds of Protection. Umi is distracted when Fuu collapses from exhaustion, and then Hikaru jumps in with Ruby Lightning to block the monster's attack on Umi. Umi's resolve makes Hikaru and Fuu able to get back up and continue fighting alongside her... Umi has pretty much taken over Hikaru's role as the lead character now.
I... I... If it means leaving Hikaru and Fuu behind... then I don't need a Rune-God!
As soon as Umi says this, the Rune-God starts glowing, and transforms into a giant robot, and it easily destroys the sea monster.
But why? I didn't show you the strength of my heart!
Legendary Magic Knight. I have seen proof of the strength of thine heart that cares for thy comrades.
T-Then what you said earlier...
Thou hast overcome the challenge.
However, thine heart is not yet ready to don me. When thou awakens as a true Magic Knight... I will show myself to thee once again.
The Rune-God beams itself into Umi's armor, and the 3 of them all received armor upgrades... So now I guess Umi has this giant robot thing that she can only summon the next time something happens that makes her "awaken" to her true Magic Knight status.
Everyone is celebrating, saying that they can finally take down Zagato now that they've revived the Rune-God... meanwhile Zagato is watching from his mirror. He starts glowing in a purple aura and says
One of the Rune-Gods has been revived.
Yeah that's what I figured... so next they're gonna go to a fire shrine and a wind shrine and each of the Magic Knights will gain their own giant robot. Oh but first, looks like there's gonna be an actual encounter with Zagato next episode.
