|Episode 12 - Sakura and the Icy Ball-Sports Tournament|
Akiho updates Kaito on the recurring dream she's been having that's been getting more and more clear, where she's standing up high, looking down at someone, and she gets the feeling there's something she wants that the person she's looking at has... This certainly sounds familiar. And Kaito seems like he's interested in her progression towards figuring out who that person is...
Sakura got up late again... This scene showing Kero helping her out with getting ready is really cute. Then she goes and has breakfast with Fujitaka, wishing she got up earlier so she could spend more time with him while he's home. They talk about how Akiho is gonna come visit and see their library in the basement.
Another really heartwwarming scene, Fujitaka goes to talk to a flowery photo of Nadeshiko, telling her that Sakura has grown up in a lot of ways, but stayed the same in other ways.
Sakura meets Syaoran on her way to school, and talks about his phone call with Wei, but doesn't tell her what he discussed with Eriol.
Tomoyo is depressed because she's not allowed to film Sakura at the ball-sports event, then Kero pokes out of the bag to remind her that he's available to help out.
After Sakura's basketball game, Syaoran goes up against Akiho in badminton. Sakura isn't sure who to cheer for, and hopes for a tie. It looks like she might get her wish...
Then out of nowhere, stormy clouds show up and it immediately starts hailing. Sakura is about to run inside with the others, but then stops and turns around. "This is..."
Woah, now shit is getting real... the hail starts attacking Sakura as soon as she gets her outfit on. It's obvious by now that these cards totally know who she is. She uses Reflect to block the hail, but it's only damaging the school as it bounces off her magic. Syaoran mentions that this card's element must be ice... but Sakura has no card that can use heat. Time for Syaoran's epic sword summoning scene again... This music is so great...
Fire God, Come Forth!
But it doesn't work... So instead he uses some even more powerful looking magic, and plunges his sword into the ground to create a huge cyclone of fire. It surrounds the card and creates a barrier from the hail that Sakura can run into and capture it.
Ohhh damn... That wasn't even the most intense part of this episode... suddenly Akiho comes out to ask them where they've been, and notices Sakura wearing a strange costume and asking about when the play that she's doing starts.
LMAO, where is this gonna lead? Now she either has to put on an improv play out of nowhere, tell Akiho her secret... or... maybe Sakura will use the Snooze card to put her to sleep and make her think she was dreaming this whole thing.
oh, it's none of those things... she just gets out of it somehow after Akiho changes the subject to wanting to see a video of a previous play that Sakura told her about... okay. Now it jumps to Sakura talking to Yukito about what happened on the phone.
I really like all the relationship dynamics going on in this show.
Sakura talks to Kero and Tomoyo about literally everything, Syaoran and Yue on the important stuff... But she hardly ever talks to Yue directly at all, and it doesn't matter since he can hear everything that Yukito hears... Although I wonder if Yue will get a chance to actually be relevant in this season though... Syaoran and Kero have certainly started becoming a lot more relevant to the plot now than they were at the beginning of this season.
Also, Meiling and Eriol are like on two opposite sides of their Sakura/Syaoran interaction levels right now. Meiling talks to Sakura on the phone all the time, but Eriol still hasn't responded to her last message, and Syaoran and Eriol are keeping in touch while we haven't seen anything between him and Meiling this season (I think? could be forgetting something)
It's like the two sides of Sun/Stars and Moon are kind of at odds with each other this season, or something is keeping them farther apart than usual...
Sakura also tells Yukito that Touya has been at work all morning and all evening today, covering for someone that had a cold, and she's worried about him getting sick... She wants Yukito to tell Touya not to push himself too hard, because he never listens to her, and while she's yelling about her brother, Yukito whispers to himself "that's not actually true"
Another scene with Sakura in the starry dream world... I wonder if Akiho is gonna find out who the person in her dream is now after seeing Sakura in that Card Captor outfit. Sakura grabs onto her key as it starts floating towards the clock wizard, trying to reason with him... woah... now this part of the story is getting intense too...
This episode has started off the 2nd cour really well and the stakes seem a lot higher now than in episodes 1-11.
I did NOT expect this... the clock wizard from these dreams is now shown lurking outside Sakura's house on a telephone pole.
Yeah I mean like, it was inevitable that they would meet in real life soon if Sakura was dreaming about it all the time... but wow I didn't expect the start of it happening to be this amazingly well-executed. With the beginning of this episode distracting you with new information about Akiho, the mage's first non-dream appearance really caught me off guard.
During the Leave it to Kero part, Kero admits he didn't get much footage of Sakura today... uh oh that's strike 2. *Tomoyo glare*
Meiling appearing next episode.
