|Episode 8 - Survival Training|
They seem to be doing pretty well at this survival training stuff. Riko is using her knowledge of the creatures around here to make it through... She recognizes a spring of clean water because it has these glowing purple bugs skimming around ontop of it, but that water is guarded by an angry hippo creature. At night, Riko makes a fire to keep the docile creatures who hate light away from them, but it doesn't keep the bugs away... Regu helps out where he can.
Ozen and one of her subordinates is watching these 2 from a distance, and the old man is commenting on how they're getting better at working together. Then it goes to a flashback scene where Ozen remembers when Lyza got married and had a kid. I think she's jealous of Lyza's husband or something. Then it seems like she's talking about a new thing that she has to take care of in the cube relic now (or was that still in the past? I dunno it's not very clear).
Riko and Regu finished their 10 day training 10 minutes into the episode. Then they had dinner with Ozen, and she told them about how your perception of time gets all messed up when you go to the deeper parts of the abyss. There's a rumor that if you stay down there for a long time, everyone who's waiting for you will probably die... Ozen says that might be exaggerated, but then goes on to say that she doesn't even know the extent of how much the 6th and 7th layers can mess up your mind... It might be that the 10 years since Lyza has gone down to the bottom of the abyss might only be a few years for her.
She then warns them about the other white whistles they could run into in the 5th layer, the Sea of Corpses, which is the farthest anyone has returned from alive... she makes a loud crack as she fixes her messed up posture.
The Sovereign of Guidance, Wakuna the Chosen.
The Sovereign of Mystery, Srajo the Mysterious.
The Sovereign of Dawn, Bondrewed the Novel.
Those are the other three who are down in the abyss right now.
Bondrewed is the worst of the 3. Regu is distressed to hear that from Ozen, who beat him up really badly...
Ozen says the letter that says "At the bottom of the abyss, I'll be waiting", is written in very strange handwriting, and the paper it's written on is an unbreakable relic... She has no idea who must be down there with Lyza.
She's helping them out a lot now... she also gives Riko a new weapon, it's Lyza's weapon that she found by her fake grave (still no idea what that's about either), and offers to train her to use it so she doesn't have to rely on Regu's incinerator weapon. And then she gives them a whole bunch more useful info about how to navigate through the 5th layer and beyond.
Another flashback scene after Marulk cries from seeing Riko and Regu off... When Ozen and Lyza returned to the surface with Riko, they talked for a bit and Lyza decided she was going to go on a final cave raid down to the netherworld in order to keep herself from preventing Riko from following in her footsteps, or something like that... She also asked Ozen to give Riko the story of how she was saved when she comes down to see her... So I guess it really is true that Riko is a zombie.
The episode ends as Riko and Regu are about to jump down through the 3rd layer.
