|This game is alright... It's basically just a 3D battle mode with single player vs CPUs, online, and local multiplayer, plus like 9 other modes where you compete in different Mario Party style minigames using the same basic battle/movement mechanics.|
There's also a story mode, but it seems to be nothing more than a "move up through the rankings by fighting CPUs in various types of battles" mode with some little story cutscenes, and there's a single hub room where you can talk to a few NPCs before each battle. The Bandana Waddle Dee character who joins you on team battles has different dialog depending on where you are in the rankings, and the Knuckle Joe has different dialog talking about the copy ability you are currently using, but the rest of the NPCs don't change much. Also you unlock more copy abilities to choose from the higher up in the rankings you get.
It's not much of a story mode at all. I'll probably be done with it in a couple hours or so, depending on how hard the CPU battles get later on. Other than that, the game awards you with medals for completing certain milestones like in Smash Bros, and those medals get you points that you can use to unlock stuff.
There's a bunch of unlockable skins to choose from for each copy ability, some of them look really fucking cool...
Some of the battle modes and copy abilities are locked until you buy them with points, and this is separate from the story mode where I guess you'll unlock all the abilities and play through all of the different modes as you go through the story...
...and that's about all there is to this game. So far in the story I've only tried Battle Arena, Apple Scramble, and Coin Clash with the sword, bomb, and beetle powers... Also each battle mode has a number of different battle arenas, so there's a lot of variation... but still it doesn't seem incredibly deep. I think I prefer the Triple Deluxe battle mode to this game's Battle Arena mode, and the rest of the minigame modes might be fun for a little bit but I doubt there's much depth to those either.
