|Vesper Defense Outpost|
This place has some very well hidden lore... and the aesthetic kinda reminds me of the pirate bases in Metroid Prime.
After getting 1 of the 3 artifacts in this area, a little maze-like morph ball path splits off into 3 separate paths. One leads to the Battlehammer weapon... I didn't realize it had limited ammo, and used it all up fighting some weak enemies and then I had to go back to my ship to recharge in order to use it get through some green barriers.
More weird lore...
Violet Crystal shall shatter the heavens, leaving in its wake a red stain.
Ran into Sylux, the ex-Federation rival that possesses the banned Shock Coil weapon. Later in the battle his gunship comes in through the hole in the roof and helps him out. That's a missable scan too.
This area is a bit more complex than the last 2... it actually takes a bit of thinking and a lot of looking around with the scanner to find all 3 artifacts.
And then it took me a while to find the Stronghold Portal again... the map isn't very useful because you can't zoom in or out (I think), and moving around on it is very frustrating. I ended up wandering in circles for a while before finding it.
This boss is just a harder version of the 1st area's boss, another rotating tower thing with weak points all around it... This one attacks way more aggressively it's actually quite hard to survive with my 3 tanks of energy and 45 missiles.
I beat it on the 2nd try, by constantly strafing around it while shooting. I think that's like the only way to survive. If you try attacking while standing still, you'll take way too much damage. Here's where I'm starting to miss the lock-on strafing feature of the first MP game... but it's not that bad having to strafe and aim manually with these touch screen controls. Its weak spots are still very big and almost impossible to miss so attacking them with manual aiming while strafing around is very doable.
After collecting the 3rd Octolith, I got a weird message from it...
Do not trust your senses. They deceive you.
I think all of the Octoliths had their own message but I wasn't writing them all down.
Now for the escape sequence... I've been running around in circles for so long in this area that it shouldn't be hard at all to find my way back. Although it gives you a much shorter time limit here due to how getting back to the ship doesn't take that long... and the only miniboss you have to fight is an android along the way back... I'm not even sure if you have to defeat it actually. I escaped with like 40 seconds left.
