|I didn't spend too much more time in Luncheon Kingdom after getting to the boss. There's so much to do in this game... but now I just wanna get to the end so I can figure out what all the post-game-only things are.|
The Odyssey crashes in Ruined Kingdom while chasing down Bowser... It's a really short stage where you fight against Bowser riding a huge dragon. I'm suer there's a bit more to this later on, like the Cloud Kingdom.
Then you get to Bowser's Castle... I was expecting the vanilla one like what you see in Paper Jam... but this is completely different, it's an old Japanese samurai style castle... I think I took more screenshots here than any other level.
I found more than half of the Power Moons and almost all of the purple coins... again I feel like I didn't miss anything that wasn't locked away until the post-game. Also this level has the most unique and interesting transformation... there's this little round woodpecker you can turn into, that can cling onto the walls with its beak, but only the non-metallic walls.
Instead of fighting Bowser at top, there's a couple harder version refights against the Broodals, and then the 4 Broodals together in a giant mech where you use the woodpecker the entire time.
Then, the Odyssey chases Bowser all the way to the moon, where he's holding his wedding... the moon is where the Broodals came from. On the surface of the moon there's lower gravity and really slow floaty jumps... then you go inside and it's a huge linear lava platforming stage that uses a bunch of different transformations you've done already, and a Bonzai Bill and Chargin Chuck... and then there's mama Broodal refight... and then you get up onto the cliff where the wedding hall is... there's a frog behind the building and you can jump way up onto the top of the building to find some stuff...
The final fight against Bowser isn't that hard, but it took me 3 tries to beat it the first time.
After that, the moon blocks (the weird things you've seen in every kingdom that you can't interact with yet) start to activate and the entire underground moon area starts collapsing... now that Bowser's wedding outfit is off, Mario can possess him with Cappy... This is so weird and cool... Bowser takes Peach on his shoulder and then you play through an escape sequence, hopping on all the collapsing blocks and destroying the walls in the way with Bowser's slash and fire breath attacks...
After the credits roll, Mario and everyone are back in Mushroom Kingdom, and it's unlocked as a new world... The Toad Brigade are the ones working at the outfit shop here.
Cappy still calls the stars here "power moons", and after collecting a few, he says the Odyssey now has enough power to get to the dark side of the moon...
I'm gonna have to check on that later, and check out all the post-game stuff that opens up on the old kingdoms next time I play... right now I have to stop playing so I can watch trihex do an any% race. I'm still not quite at the point yet where I can watch his 100% progress streams without being spoiled. Also I started watching narcissa's playthrough. She's about as thorough in collecting stuff as I was playing sober, but she isn't as good at learning the game mechanics as I was (both high and sober).
I beat the game with 236 power moons (or was that just how much I had when I got to the moon?)... and never used the hint toad at all so far...
