|Going back to get 100% items everywhere... Yep this is very tedious and boring, just like it is in every 2D Metroid. |
There's like, no challenge to it, since you have all of Samus's upgrades and can just run through all the normal enemies without even trying to dodge or parry. The map is very helpful, especially how it shows you the individual completion % of each area... I mostly just had to go back to any unmapped squares or doors I haven't been through yet, but occasionally I had to spam Scan Pulse everywhere to find a hidden passage that wasn't marked on the map...
There was absolutely nothing interesting or new in this entire cleanup session, it's all just stuff that I've done already in my 63% playthrough. It took a little over 2 hours to run around everywhere and get 100% of the items and beat the game again. Even though Ridley is very easy to cheese, he can still kill you if you aren't careful. I was again down to my last energy tank at the time that I beat him.
Also, I just noticed the images that are shown during the credits are actually 3D dioramas that you can rotate around slightly with the circle pad.
There's no special ending for getting 100% completion, but it does unlock some amazing looking 3D pictures in the gallery, called Chozo Memories.
Based on these images, it seems that a faction of the Chozo living on SR388 created Aieon energy and the mechanical robot enemies in order to dominate the planet... but then the Aieon evolved into the X parasite, and started taking over the life on this planet... so then the Chozo created the Metroids in order to fight the X parasite, and sealed the 2 bioweapons beneath the planet so they would be contained and wouldn't spread to other planets.
All of the special endings are just from beating the game quickly. There's an ending for beating it in under 8 hours and under 4 hours on both normal and hard mode. I definitely want to go for those endings eventually, but I don't think there would be any point in going for 100% again, unless there's a new gallery thing to unlock from doing a hard mode 100% run.
Hard mode should be interesting, especially at the beginning of the game when Samus is very weak, and you're already fighting some late-game enemies.
