|I did everything I could in Chapter 2... the next act requires an ability I don't have yet, and I still need to beat 1 more act to unlock the boss.|
Went back to world 1... there's a couple time rifts here I haven't found yet, including a purple one that I know the location of but I can't get the portal to appear. I guess the purple ones require something special that you have to figure out, unlike the blue ones which are just straightforward?
lol this one yarn piece I found is so pointless. It requires the Ice Hat to get to it, and it's just another Ice Hat yarn piece which you don't need anymore by the time you're able to get it.
Oh I see... the purple rift portal was floating in the air, I just didn't see it before. The purple portals are where the time piece hit somebody on the head, and created a world made up of that person's memories. There's a bunch of optional photos you can find in these memory rift levels.
Act 2 of Chapter 3 is very long... first you have to fully explore the expansive forest/swamp section and platform across a lot of tree branches. using the dweller spirits to make the green tree platforms solid... it took me a while to realize I had the yarn for a new hat, the Dweller Mask, which lets you have the same "dweller vision" except anywhere. After opening up the whole forest by feeding all the paintings to to the fire spirits, I spent a lot of time exploring the treetops and collecting all the yarn pieces and relics I could find... then I finally went inside the well where Act 2 actually starts for real. This part is just a very simple linear path to try out your new hookshot badge.
This is where you get the "Hookshot" badge. I don't like that this ability is a badge that you have to equip... but I guess it makes sense because X is also used to attack enemies, and it would get annoying when you're trying to fight enemies and you auto target a hookshot thing.
I put a new relic set together, and found a purple time rift in Chapter 2. This seems to be in the Act 1 part of this chapter, where you're sneaking through Dead Bird Studio. This rift level is only hard because of all the cameras that cause damage to you if you get seen by them. It's really easy to die if you don't pay attention to where the cameras are. I found all 8 of the photos here easily.
A blue time rift is in the parade level on the DJ Grooves side... that level itself is really intense, you have a bunch of bird enemies following you around so you have to keep moving to stay alive, and you can also go around collecting stuff for points... the time rift version of this level is a void platforming level with this same gimmick of enemies following your every step.
I guess I'm done with chapter 2 now... but with the Conductor as the winner, the boss level was just a free time piece with no boss or anything in it... I wonder if that level changes if I got more points for DJ Grooves instead...
Oh, damn, looks like it's already too late. I went and got a higher score on the parade level so that DJ Grooves is ahead, but it's still just the conductor at the award ceremony. you have to start a new game in order to see it the other way around.
Wait... wtf, now I'm stuck in the chapter 2 room... there's a phone call on the pay phone... that suspicious character from act 2 says someone was using the power of the time pieces to rig the movie awards, and they're still keeping one of them.
I just realized the witch hat's projectiles destroys the objects with a yellow glow, and this opens up the path to a room with a bunch of weird Hat Kid photos on the wall... as well as another relic podium, and a time rift portal.
The real Act 6 happens when you go back into Act 1... Sneak into Dead Bird Studio at night, and get to the basement... This area is very similar to the purple time rift I found here earlier. Except it's a lot longer... it's a fairly difficult platforming maze followed by a boss fight against the Conductor. The Witch Hat's projectiles made this boss fight a lot easier, but it was still pretty tough.
