|Episode 5: Turnabout Revolution - Investigation part 3 recap|
The game switches to Phoenix's perspective now... he and Edgeworth get summoned by the queen for some reason...
lol these exchanges between Phoenix and Edgeworth are really funny and nostalgic... when you try presenting random stuff to him he's like "Still at it, I see. I guess borders mean little in the face of your incurable habit."
and then when Phoenix mentions that he heard Edgeworth used to present evidence all the time in his investigations too, he says "That was a long time ago... besides, who did you here that from? Tell your source that I look forward to his next salary review."
Also, Edgeworth says that prosecutor Payne was expelled from the prosecuting office, and he was surprised to see him climb the ranks here in Khura'in.
Queen Ga'ran seems very friendly and reasonable... She explains the reason for her passing the defense culpability act was because of Dhurke having forged evidence, in his trial for queen Amara's murder... so she had to raise the stakes for lawyers and give prosecutors the advantage in order to restore people's faith in the trial process... Edgeworth and Phoenix are both like "heh, where have we heard this story before?"
Rayfa is still shaken up and finds it hard to believe that her father was a traitor... Ga'ran explains that Inga had been using secret police to try and usurp the throne, and he hired someone to steal the Founder's Orb and study it in order to try and gain the spiritual power needed to become the next leader of Khura'in. She isn't upset about this at all, and is actually cheerful because she was able to apprehend Dhurke after all these years.
I suppose it's possible she could be the main villain in all this... but she's putting up a very believable friendly act.
Ga'ran doesn't know where the Founder's Orb has disappeared to since Dhurke was captured, and she asks about that horned lawyer... Phoenix mentions that Apollo is Dhurke's foster son, and she is surprised and goes to whisper something to a guard...
Later, Rayfa comes to Phoenix and says she wants to investigate with him again... she is determined to prove that her father wasn't a traitor. She says he probably only wanted the orb so that he could give Rayfa more spiritual power.
For some reason, Rayfa's attendant Nayna has been missing ever since right before the murder happened... hmm, this is suspicious... and Nayna is the one who has basically raised Rayfa and taught her everything she knows, including her distrust of lawyers.
Phoenix wonders how Rayfa is going to take doing the divination seance and having to see her own father's final moments...
Rayfa lets Phoenix and Edgeworth investigate her father's bedroom.. among a few other weird things that were found (including back pain medicine.. Phoenix takes some for himself, and even tries to get Rayfa to pretend he's her dad and massage his back), they find a hidden safe, and guessed the right combination by using Rayfa's birthday..
holy shit... some major feels here... inside the safe they find a letter from 8 year old Rayfa that he kept all this time... they also found Inga's plans to kill the queen after he received the orb's spiritual powers... and they also found a photo of some woman holding a baby, and there's a Defiant Dragons law book in the background... Rayfa is completely shocked and confuses Phoenix with her reaction to the photo...
"I must ask my mother... about the secret she is hiding."
I wonder... maybe that picture is queen Amara? were the Defiant Dragons even around back then, before the DCA became a thing?
Phoenix runs into Ahlbi out in the palace courtyard... when asked about how he got in here, he admits that he's sneaking in through a small hole in the wall, because ever since that 3rd case, him and other commoners have started doubting the legitimacy of the DCA and Ahlbi is now trying to find proof of a conspiracy... he says he saw the queen in the middle of a spirit channeling and took a photo of it.. also, his dog Shah'do ran in here and stole Nayna's hat at about 1 hour before the murder happened..
Ahlbi says he ran into a couple of Phoenix's friends a moment ago... he could tell they were his friends because they had weird haircuts... Apollo and Athena were being pursued by the royal guard...
I'm not sure what's happening right now, but it certainly seems like Queen Ga'ran is going to end up being the main antaganist here... Nayna is probably up to no good as well... other than that I am completely in the dark about what's going to happen...
This is still the part of the story where it is giving me more questions than answers. Even with both Apollo and Phoenix doing their own investigations and finding a bunch more evidence between the two of them, I still am not quite sure who the villain is or what they're trying to accomplish... Whatever it is I'm really looking forward to it.
