|- Prologue -|
Lisette, a cute pink haired girl, gives a short backstory about the kingdom that angered the moon god and got attacked by angels, and was then saved by the hero Elcrest.
The first thing I noticed about this game was its really cute, bright and colorful art style. Also the plot description has something about the power of music or something...
Alto is the generic male swordsman protaganist who lost his memories... he got adopted into the innkeeper family and became Lisette's brother... he has some pendant that is his only key to learning about his past. He then gives it to Lisette for her birthday, saying he doesn't need it anymore because they're his new family.
- Day 1 -
Alto wakes up and hears someone singing in the forest... he meets a witch-looking girl named Hilda.
Long ago, god took away song as punishment for mankind's arrogance. Only supernatural beings can sing now. Witches.Lisette comes to the forest and finds Alto and this witch... Hilda warns them both to leave their village, but doesn't explain why. When they get back, one of the villagers has been trapped in stone.
That night, Alto tries to sneak out to go to the forest to find out what's happening, but Lisette comes to his room to stop him, and then sleeps with him while holding his hand to make sure he doesn't go anywhere. Meanwhile back in the forest... Hilda is with this other person named Dante, and it seems like they are planning something...
- Day 2 -
Alto hears the singing again... They both go outside, and Hilda is right there singing in the village. Lisette learns this witch's name and tells Alto this is the black witch, the Witch of Destruction.
Turns out Hilda was the one who turned that guy to stone... She was singing the Song of Ruin to try to crystallize the whole village. Dante introduces himself to Alto and says he's going to eventually kill him for some reason... "It's because we're human that we kill each other."
Alto tries to stop them from destroying the village, but can only manage to take out a couple of Hilda's familiars... Lisette's mom gets crystallized, and she can't do anything but cry in the corner as Alto gets beaten up by Dante... Then suddenly, Lisette cries out at them to stop... and she absorbs the pendant, which Hilda recognizes as "The Water Qualia"
Alto and Lisette get surrounded by black flames,, Alto goes into some void world, wondering if he's going to die...
Do you seek power?
Of course I do! I need the strength to protect Lisette
Then I shall grant it. But know that you cannot come back once it's yours.
Tune the girlThen there's some trippy cutscene, and Alto ends up in this weird abstract world that looks like a witch domain from Madoka...
You are in the girl's heart.Next you go through a dumb little minigame where you just have to walk forward a few times, and then Alto and Lisette return to the real world, and Lisette is now in witch clothing...
Now comes the first real battle of the game where it's actually possible to die... But with Lisette's new abilities it looks like it might just be possible to defeat Dante... but just then some royal knights show up and chase Hilda and her harbingers away. The knights take Alto and Lisette to the Royal Capital.
Chapter 1: The Royal Capital
We have brought the Water Witch and the other one, as ordered! They take us to meet Queen Anastasia... she looks a lot like Saber.
On this continent, there exist jewels called Qualia. There are five in total: Water, Wind, Fire, Earth, and Time. By absorbing a Qualia into her body, a girl gains the power of song, or magic, and becomes a witch. Qualia reside in highly empathetic girls. If a girl loses her empathy, that Qualia will search for another.
Next, Medea shows up to confirm Lisette's witch status... (and Medea actually looks a lot like Caster/Medea from FSN lol)
she's a music specialist... she gets Lisette to try and sing, and she succeeds, but only for a short moment...
Anastasia accepts her as the Water Witch, and says that she is the only hope they have of saving this kingdom. She then explains that she can undo Hilda's curse by reciting a holy song called the Anthem. But this requires four Witches to sing together. The kingdom already knows where the Fire Witch and the Wind Witch are, and they are currently searching for Earth. The Water Witch was the only one they had no idea where it was, until now.
Alto passed the knight exam easily... the other knights taking the exam were total scrubs, which made Alto look good by comparison. The knight commander, Klaus, allows me to join. Klaus and two other knights, Rusty and Archibald, are now in my party. Rusty is really lazy and complains and makes distasteful jokes a lot, and Archibald, the heavy knight, is always very serious and is like the opposite of Rusty. I get shown around to the orb shop and the equipment shop, and to Alto's room where I can save and see a summary of the story... and then I can depart and start the training mission. I then get a tutorial for the world map. It explains about how yellow dots go to a story event, while red dots go to a battle... white spaces are just empty places you can't go to... the ruined Mithra Village is now a white space.
so yeah I guess the only gameplay you have outside of battle involves selecting from a menu and moving around on a SMB3 like world map. easy enough.
After an easy battle against some random monsters, Alto's team goes to prepare for the journey to find more witches to join our side... Overnight, there's a scene showing Hilda's team attacking another village and turning people into crystals, and the kingdom gets notified of this right away... it seems Hilda's goal is to "fill the world with her song of ruin"
