|Episode 3: The Rite of Turnabout - Investigation part 2 recap|
Another character who seemed unimportant before, Puhray Zeh'lot, suddenly becomes important now that he's been found dead. It turns out he died around the same time as the high priest, and with the same murder weapon. everyone was so focused on praying that nobody noticed he was dead until now.
Zeh'lot was the high priest's apprentice, living in the same house as him, and it is assumed that he too was secretly a rebel. I'm finding a few more unusual pieces of evidence, but no leads to help prove Maya innocent so far...
lol... Maya asks the princess to let her out of jail in exchange for giving her the Plumed Punisher toy... she actually considers it for a moment.
woah, hold on a sec... Maya just remembered that she left the Tome of Secrets in the high priest's house... she says it's a thing that contains the name and image of the original Lady Kee'ra... Rayfa is afraid of it when Phoenix accidentally opens it up, saying we'll be cursed if we read the contents of it... its secrets are only supposed to be known by the person playing the role of Lady Kee'ra.
Rayfa mentions that Khura'in has been getting a lot of illegal immigrants lately, who are coming here to try and learn spirit channelling. Phoenix starts talking to Rayfa about this "secret technique" of spirit channeling. She's really into this subject, so much that she doesn't even mind talking about it with him... but she admits she's still just a beginner at it. Phoenix has a bit of a smug look on his face, knowing that Maya's spirit channeling power is above the level of the Khura'in princess's... Phoenix notices that Rayfa and Maya actually have a lot in common.
Suddenly, Rayfa gets told that the escaped prisoner has been spotted in town, and Phoenix goes there in order to find him and get some more information... Rayfa is worried about Phoenix when he decides to go down an open manhole. As soon as he goes down there, he gets clobbered and then wakes up in the rebel's main hq.. The escaped prisoner, Datz Are'bal, is there when he wakes up, except now he doesn't have his shaggy beard and hairstyle going on.. he still has a huge goofy mouth though.. uhg I hate how this guy looks when he leaves his mouth hanging wide open.
Phoenix finds out that Dhurke is actually a lawyer, and this area is his law office... Datz is planning to betray the rebels and hand over info on Durke so he can go free and stop hiding in the shadows.
Here we go... main plot lorebomb time.
I found a photo of Dhurke and his 2 kids from 20 years ago... Phoenix says these 2 kids look familiar. Now that I think of it, that one kid looks a lot like Apollo. Yep... and I correctly guessed that the kid with white hair is Nahyuta Sahdmadhi. This would explain why Apollo seems to know that guy.
Nahyuta decided to become a prosecutor instead of a lawyer like his dad...
Datz gets psyche locks on him when Phoenix tries to ask him about what his plan was... He's saying that he's only trying to escape and abandon the rebels, but it turns out that he's still with the rebels, and he was only testing Phoenix to make sure he wasn't gonna end up like one of those other lawyers who side with the queen for mercy. Now that he sees that Phoenix isn't gonna back down no matter what, he then gives Phoenix an orange orb which is the key to one of their hideouts... lemme guess, this hideout is in the high priest's house?
Phoenix doesn't seem the least bit worried that he's gonna be Lady Kee'ra's next target, now that he's cooperating with the rebels...
Datz says that the rebel hunter dressed as Lady Kee'ra is probably part of a conspiracy by the royals, to frame and arrest anyone that's even sympathizing with the rebellion. Phoenix remembers what the justice minister Inga told him, and notices that his attitude is a lot like this description of Lady Kee'ra... That would make sense as a reason for Lady Kee'ra to frame Maya, because she's the friend of a lawyer who won a court case despite the DC act.
Datz also says that Dhurke was framed in the assassination of the former queen, and it was because of that that the country turned against lawyers.
When Phoenix comes back out of the manhole, he hides what he found from Rayfa.
oh, I guess I was wrong. the hideout is not in the priest's house, it's at the inner sanctum. I put the orange ball into the eye socket of the statue and it revealed a door.. Rayfa is completely stunned to learn about this. She has to stay back and watch Phoenix from outside, because she's not allowed to touch the spring where Kee'ra washes off her sins of battle...
There's a bunch of Plumed Punisher merchandise in this hidden room... Rayfa is jealous at Phoenix for being able to come in here.
There's a note from Dhurke, ordering Datz to go into the palace dressed as Lady Kee'ra in order to search for clues about the incident from 23 years ago where Dhurke was framed.
Also found a hidden microphone... that'll be useful for sure.
Right after Phoenix has finished looking at everything, Ema and the police arrived in response to Rayfa's call.
Nahyuta calls on Rayfa to show him the divination seance for this 2nd victim... This time Rayfa is determined to get it right and avoid making a mistake that will allow Phoenix to contradict her. Phoenix notices that she's feeling much more confident now than she was earlier, when she felt like she failed in her duties. I bet what will happen is Rayfa will realize that her divinations are supposed to be neutral, not biased against the accused, and she'll no longer think that she's "failing her duties" when her divination helps the defense.
At first it seemed like this 2nd investigation segment was going nowhere and only making it seem more and more likely that Phoenix and Maya were going to be sentenced.. but now there's a ton of new info and evidence to use. There was also a lot of insight into the main overarching plot of the game revealed during this segment. It's getting really interesting now.
