|gah! I'm totally stuck on this part of the 2nd episode trial where you have to find a difference between the 2 videos. I don't like to do this but I am convinced I've tried every possible thing I could find, and now I'm wondering if I actually had the right solution at some point but the game didn't register it because I wasn't pointed at exactly the right spot or something... I had pretty much no choice but to look in a guide to figure out that I was in fact right, I just failed to point to the exact thing that the game wanted me to point at. That was annoying, I spent way longer on that than I should have.|
Episode 2: The Magical Turnabout - Trial part 2 recap
Trucy puts on a big magic show to demonstrate how she swapped the real sword for the rubber one, and everyone is impressed at how she manages to keep smiling even when a bunch of people think she's a murderer. Apollo points out that the footage doesn't show her doing this trick to swap the swords, and then suddenly Bonny comes and reveals she has a video that was taken from a cameraman that has a crush on her. Then you have to figure out the difference between the 2 pieces of footage to figure out that one of the scenes was edited out. This new footage focuses almost entirely on Bonny in a really creepy way.
This is where I got stuck for a bit, only because the first time I tried presenting at the part where there were cards being thrown at Bonny, it didn't work because I wasn't pointed at exactly the right spot. Then I spent like 40 minutes checking every other thing I could think of before finally giving up and looking in a guide.
Then, the TV producer guy comes in to explain his reasoning for editing the footage. Apollo starts to show this guy's true colors by exposing the fact that he tricked Trucy into signing a contract and then forged her signature onto another document. Of course this isn't nearly enough to convince the prosecutor that you are onto something... then he starts trying to prove that Retinz has a motive for wanting to frame Trucy, by suggesting he is a rival magician, and eventually presents the picture of Mr. Reus that shows a scar on his arm, to prove that the Mr. Reus who was murdered is a different guy and suggests that Retinz is the real Mr. Reus, and Retinz concedes and shows his arm scar to prove him right... It seems that Apollo is just bluffing his way through most of this and just happened to have made a lucky guess. I like how stupid some of these wrong guesses are. Sometimes I'm intentionally doing the wrong guess just to see the judge and everyone make fun of Apollo.
Retinz changes his personality from a TV producer guy to a flashy magician with a huge ego, making fire appear out of his hands and stuff.. The prosecutor Nahyuti reminds Apollo that Retinz has an alibi, so even if he has the perfect motive he still couldn't have done it. This is where Apollo starts to make use of the Wright agency's tried and true tactic of thinking form a different perspective... He recalls what Trucy said about how magic works, and realizes that he's dealing with an illusionist, someone who can use magic to commit murder without actually being there at the crime scene. This leads you to finally figuring out what that shadowy figure in the video footage was. Apollo figures out that Retinz plan was to have Mr. Reus get impaled by a sword hanging from the catwalk when he gets pulled up, after the planned scene where he was supposed to fake his death.
Nahyuti still isn't convinced, and he says unless there is some evidence to show this, then Trucy is still the prime suspect. This next scene, Apollo has some internal monologue where he asks himself some questions about the case, while some overly flashy visualization of his conciousness goes on in the background, and eventually figures out that the victim's fingerprints swapped sides, and that's the piece of evidence that flips the case over and makes Retinz into the primary suspect, because he's the only one who would've needed to flip the sides of the coffin around after putting the bloodstain in the wrong spot, since he didn't know at first that there was a mistake that made it so Trucy had to insert the sword from the opposite side... that's was a pretty solid case. There were plenty of hints during the investigation section to give you a fair chance at figuring out what the trick was before Apollo did.
Retinz puts on a huge magic show during his final outburst, and then he taunts Trucy and insults her talent as a magician, because even she was tricked by his magic... After the trial, Apollo reminds Trucy that she is the better magician, and shows her the notebook containing the first rule the Gramarye school of magic, to always put on a smile during the performance..
Then, a weird twist out of nowhere.. Apollo talks to Nahyuti as if they knew each other prior to this trial... but Nahyuti pretends not to know him. Apollo remains secretive about this... okay, why not
Bonny and Betty were the best thing about this episode. They're so cute and perfect
