|This game isn't anywhere near as good as the Capcom one. It's similar in style but pretty much worse in every way...|
The mechanics and hit detection are very unpolished... sometimes I can't really tell when I should be hitting an enemy or they should be hitting me...
The levels are open-ended like the Capcom one, with some collectables and extra lives to find if you explore, but in some places (especially the town rooftops level), it's really hard to tell what parts of the level you can go through and what parts you can't... I had to give up on some of the collectables because I couldn't figure out how to get to them.
The first half of the game is pretty tolerable... I'm playing on Normal mode and I haven't had to continue yet and maxed out my lives. But then I got to the Cave of Wonders Escape level... The previous level was the first one with insta-death pits, and this level has insta-death pits all over the place and with very large gaps that are hard to make it over... sometimes the slopes screw up your momentum and make you unable to make the jump, I have no idea what exactly causes that though... not to mention there are several parts where a boulder is chasing you that kills you on contact, so you don't really have time to stop and look where you're going before jumping across the next large gap... I lost all my lives and all my continues just at this one level.
I'm not even mad... the game was only half-decent up until now and with this level it just puts it up into the "don't even give a shit about completing this" tier. Now I'm gonna watch the J&MM video that was uploaded today that caused me to want to play this.
The platforming/obstacles have kind of a NES Battletoads feel...
