|Episode 4 - The Edge of the Abyss|
These new adventurers... Welling up inside them is courage, wit, and curiosity. On their path, hope and despair alike are lying in wait.
This is the narration that gets played as Riko just happily drops into the pit, holding onto Regu, while saying goodbye to her friends like it's no big deal.
They landed in some forest, only 820 meters down so far (They have some device that shows what depth they're at)... At some point, Riko fell asleep, and Regu used his extending arm as a protective shield around them so he could get some sleep too. Regu freaked out for a second when Riko woke him up by tapping on part of his arm.
Riko looks up, and recognizes a structure at the 600 meter mark, and says she's always wanted to go down to 400 meters and now can't even see up that far... Somehow, the sky is brighter down here than it was up above.
While eating some fish stew, Riko shows off her compass relic thing, which always points to the bottom of the netherworld... then she accidentally drops it and it falls down a waterfall.
Regu gives Riko something he forgot about until now... when he bumped into Leader earlier, he slipped this book into his pocket. It contains a copy of Lyza's letter, as well as a red note from Leader saying "I'll depart at dawn to capture you." Riko considers this a test, saying if they don't make it down to the 2nd layer by the time Leader catches them, they weren't yet ready to descend further into the abyss.
They encounter a spider monster. Riko knows that this think can't leave its territory, and suggests Regu uses it as an anchor to hold onto while they jump down the cliff.
They try to take a rest when they get to the edge of the 1st layer, but then Regu uses his super vision to see someone in the distance... a cave raider is coming after them. They try to escape, but he's way too fast... They get caught by Habo, the black whistle... but he's not actually there to capture them. Habo explains that Nat and Shiggy tipped him off about everything, including the fact that Regu is an unknown relic that Riko found, and they asked him to help Riko get down to the 2nd layer, but he's mostly only interested in checking out this robot kid.
However, Riko rejects Habo's help, saying she and Regu need to prove themselves by passing Leader's final test. Instead, Habo just sees them off and gives them some vaccine that Blue Whistles take to help them survive the dive down to the 2nd layer, and some day old food... and warns them about the strange character that guards the Seeker Camp at the entrance to the 2nd layer. She's a white whistle, and the one who found Lyza's letter recently, and she also helped Lyza carry the baby Riko up to the surface. He's very vague, and just says "be wary of the white whistle, Ozen."
Habo knew Riko since she was a baby, and she's always been drawn to the abyss... He knew she would eventually set out one of these days.
At any rate, we're all just the netherworld's lost children.
They get down to the 2nd layer, and Riko is like "Yay, now we don't have to worry about being pursued!"... Then they're reminded of the dangerous creatures lurking down here, and the fact that nobody is there to rescue them from here on out.
It occurred to me that Regu could easily take out any of these monsters with his hand blaster if he knew that he had that power... but then again maybe using that is what caused him to lose his memory...
