|Episode 1 - The City of the Great Pit|
There's these orphan kids that are working as excavators at the Great Pit. I guess all of their parents died exploring this pit and now they're being forced to take their place. Well I dunno if they're being forced, they seem very enthusiastic about it. The one kid says he wants to move up to the 600-meter group.
Riko sees Nat who is about to be eaten by a flying red monster, so she blows her whistle to distract the monster to save him from being eaten, then when she's about to be eaten instead, she gets saved by a powerful beam that was shot at the monster. She goes to check out the source of that beam attack, and finds a furry robot kid that is passed out cuz I guess he used the last of his energy. Riko takes the robot back with her, and with her friends they try to hide it from the higher ups.
Riko isn't confident at being able to hiding it, and almost tells the whole story to the group leader when explaining why Nat lost his backpack. The guy she's talking to doesn't catch on, but warns her to be careful, saying even at 100 meters down there's a lot of dangerous unknown stuff in this pit... Riko wants to quickly move up to the White Whistles group at 400 meters, but he says even coming back from that depth would be an ordeal for her. Right now she's just an apprentice Red Whistle and can only go down 100 meters.
Riko and her friends are in her room, which is a torture chamber (she got moved here because she's always causing mischief), and they use the electric chair device to make the robot wake up, but the surge must've messed up his memories... Then some other kid shows up and warns everyone that the power has gone out and the leader is coming up to this room to find out what Riko did. Riko tries to hide the robot under a blanket, and the robot uses his grapple arm to hide up on the ceiling instead. The robot can't remember anything about himself, but he discovered he had that ability just in time.
Then Riko runs away from the leader and the robot uses his arm to escape with her out the window. Riko names the robot Reg, and takes him up to the windmill to show him a view of this city called Orth, and the Great Pit in the middle of it where she found him in.
About 1,900 years ago... a huge pit was discovered on a remote island in the southern sea of Beoluska. With a diameter of about 1,000 meters and a depth that is still unknown to this day, the mysterious formation mesmerized people. Valuable and dangerous primeval creatures and mysterious Relics that are beyond comprehension beckoned adventurers looking to strike it rich, which in time gave rise to a giant city. Over the span of many years, with a spirit of adventure for the unknown and countless legends luring them in, the world's only remaining unexplored chasm has swallowed up a great many people. It is known as the Abyss.
Well, I'm certainly into this already. The story is very intriguing, and the background music has this really neat JRPG feel to it.
