|Part 6: Records of Oblivion continued|
Shiki goes to fight this new enemy, Satsuki Kurogiri.. but he just calmly makes Shiki blind with a spell and escapes merely injured.
Then later Azaka Kokuto confronts him.. she sees this guy as a very troubled person who lost his own memory, and then gained access to the Akaishic Records where he can now see all memories.. He refuses to look at his own memories because he's afraid of not being able to recognize them as his own.. and instead he prefers to make new memories out of other people's memories, and he grants people's wishes by giving them back memories that they've thrown away or lost... something like that anyway.
Satsuki tells Azaka about how the real enemy, that girl controlling the faeries, is about to burn down a classroom full of people... Azaka shows up and uses her Art to stop her... this chapter contained a lot more philosophical discussion and didn't really focus enough on plot at the end so I couldn't tell what was going on that well.
Part 7: A Second Homicide Inquiry
The prologue has some unknown guy as the protaganist, who starts going around killing and eating people because Soren Alaya helped him awake to his origin... then it goes back to Shiki Ryogi... Shiki has gone back to isolation like that time in the first chapter (before her coma), and is wandering the dark alleys and staying hidden while searching for this mystery killer who she still suspects might be herself... even though the murderous alter ego inside her is gone now, she has regained that alter ego's memories thanks to her run-in with the memory thief in the last chapter, and now she only cares about confronting this murderer to find out the truth about herself...
She eventually runs into the murderer, who is a guy wearing a kimono just like her... it seems like this is Shiki's alter ego given a separate body? No actually... Mikiya goes on his own investigation and finds that the murderer is a guy they both knew from school. This guy is obsessed with Shiki and has been stalking and taking pictures of her even recently... Leo Mirazumi or something.. Mikiya confronts him and tries to reason with him, but he claims that since he awoke to his origin, he has no choice but to kill and eat people... Mikiya tries to bring him to Toko to get him help, but fails... Leo is already injured by Shiki and is on the run from her...
Next Shiki calls Mikiya Kokuto for some reason, and he tries to convince her not to murder this guy... he says that she hasn't actually murdered anyone once before, and if she does it now it'll be too late to go back. Shiki remembers Kokuto's words and can't find it in herself to kill Leo.. She recalls the memories she regained from Satsuki... when Shiki was about to kill Kokuto, but then the alter ego Shiki is against it... Shiki then stands in front of traffic to try and kill herself so that her alter ego could finally be free to pursue his dreams... but the alter ego instead takes over and dies in her place... Shiki slowly starts to realize that both she and her alter ego have always wanted to be normal, and that she still has a chance...
Mikiya ends up getting nearly killed by Leo, and Shiki almost gets raped by him... finally when Shiki senses Kokuto's blood on Leo's hands, that pushes her over the edge and causes her to cross the boundary and murder Leo... (although to be fair it was more an act of self defense)
And then it turns out Kokuto is actually still alive after having a knife go through his forehead... Kokuto barely manages to get the strength to go to wear Shiki is, and he promises her that he'll bear all of her sins for her as much as he can... they both sit there spilling red tears of blood...
Epilogue: Empty Boundaries
After Mikiya recovers from the hospital, him and Shiki go on a long walk together... then suddenly, another person takes over Shiki's body and talks to Mikiya... this person is the "true" Shiki, the soul that represents Shiki's origin of emptiness... this soul should have become empty as soon as the 2 Shiki personas took control of the body, but due to their lineage's magic this soul stayed alive, seeing everything that was going on through the spiral of origin... This Shiki offers Mikiya a wish that she can fulfill for him.. but he refuses, saying he prefers everything the way it is now...
