|Part 5: Paradox Spiral continued|
Some new guy who is on the same side as Alaya shows up to see Toko Aozaki to tell her that Alaya has captured Shiki, and it won't be long now before he'll be able to take Shiki's body for himself and gain access to the root... This guy, Alba, is a mage who really hates Toko for some reason. He knew her when they were both in training..
Next, Toko goes to the building to try and rescue Shiki, even though she knows she can't match Alaya's abilities.. she confronts Alaya and fights her with some familiars, but ultimately fails and gets decapitated. Alaya keeps her head alive in some kind of device...
At that time, Tomoe Enjo wakes up in the apartment and decides to try and rescue Shiki, and he runs into Kokuto Mikiya, who came by because Toko was taking so long and was worried about her and Shiki.. even though these 2 don't know each other, they realize they have the same goals. Tomoe eventually tells Mikiya about his involvement in all this, and he realizes Mikiya truly loves Shiki more than he does, so he gives Mikiya the key to Shiki's apartment, only saying "take this, you're the one who needs to take care of it now."
They split up... Tomoe goes to the top floor to find the truth about himself, and among all the heads being kept alive for the experiment, he finds his own head and realizes he was a fake all along... he meets Alaya, who tells him that he was being strung along in his plan and his true origin is "worthlessness".. but Tomoe doesn't believe him and thinks he can make his own origin...
Meanwhile, Kokuto confronts Alba. Alba thinks Kokuto is Toko's apprentice which makes him want to torture him for fun... he shows him Toko's head being kept alive, before crushing it and killing her.. Kokuto gets knocked unconscious, and just then Toko Aozaki appears, alive and well...
Alba is confused as fuck... Toko Aozaki is a "puppet master" mage who can create copies of herself... but the copies that mages create are never perfect, they always end up going insane at not being able to live as the true puppet master... but Toko got around this.. her puppets only activate when she, the puppet master, dies. So then the puppet effectively becomes the new "Toko Aozaki", indistinguishable from the previous one. Alba still thinks this is a trick and wants to believe she's a fake and the real Toko is dead... but Toko says this is just pointless details. Toko easily kills Alba with a familiar, and then starts giving first aid to Kokuto.
As Alaya is talking to Tomoe, he notices Alba has died, and goes to see the new Toko is there.. Alaya challenges her to a rematch, but she refuses, saying she is no match for him... She says that Alaya's pursuits are futile... what he is doing is sorcery, and the consensus of humanity will always deny sorcery in the end... This is how Alaya justifies Tomoe acting out of line and resisting his origin.. he is acting for the consensus and trying to deny Alaya's work...
Toko then declares she doesn't need to fight him.. because he made the mistake of keeping Shiki alive within a prison that cannot hold her... At that moment, Shiki regains consciousness and starts tearing apart Alaya's wards. Shiki confronts Alaya for the 2nd time, and this time having more knowledge of his abilities, is easily able to kill him. Shiki says this is the first time she wants to kill not for the excitement, but because she genuinely wants Alaya dead.
Later, after Kokuto and Shiki have both recovered from their injuries, Kokuto uses his key to show up to Shiki's apartment uninvited and has breakfast there.. Shiki starts to get nostalgic of her past life (before the coma), and how Kokuto is the one thing that connects her current self to her past self... she then asks Kokuto for the key to his apartment to make things fair...
