|Episode 18 - Sakura and the Fire and Water Birds|
This starts out with Sakura and her friends having lunch on the grass, and Akiho is look through the pop-up Alice book that Sakura borrowed from Rika. Then they start talking about Rika being good at many different musical instruments, and Naoko brings up that she's also interested in playing music using matryoshka dolls as an instrument somehow... Sakura is about as confused as I am regarding how the hell that works.
Then the topic changes to how all the roll cakes they made in cooking class disappeared and they fell asleep for some reason, and Sakura is looking really apologetic. Chiharu says she worked really hard to make one that looked like her dog Maru...
Naoko is like "I'm using this in my script for the theatre club"... yeah that does sound exactly like one of those mystery stories she likes so much.
Sakura made one with Syaoran's green robe design on it, and it shows the scene of her giving it to him at the swingset in Penguin Park.
Akiho is blushing too, I guess from thinking about when she gave her roll cake to Kaito... Then when she's about to give the book back to Sakura, Sakura tells her that Rika wanted Akiho to keep it.
Just noticed they aren't using any background music for this scene at all for some reason... up until this next part... Suddenly Sakura sees glass shards floating around Akiho... and then she falls into a daydream and sees the clock wizard again...
This feels different from her normal prophetic dreams... she wakes up while walking through the halls, and Akiho stops her from walking into something. Sakura gets out of her daze and says she was just spaced out from thinking about math class... It's almost like someone casted a spell on her just now or something. Since that dream was involved, I get the feeling this is happening because of Kaito/Akiho and not necessarily because of another Clear Card.
Wait... Is there something about Akiho's powers that it's like, her holding a book is what's making Sakura go into those dreams about a clock mage? She was holding the Alice book earlier in the episode too, but it might have something to do with how long she's holding it or idk... This same sort of thing happened when Akiho showed Sakura that other "Alice" book she was reading before.
Then the scene cuts to Akiho putting her new Alice pop-up book away in her library with her other Alice books. Kaito shows up and mentions that she has a special affinity for books about Alice, especially the Alice in Clock Land book. Then he goes on to ask her about why she's been looking kinda down since she came home. Akiho says she's worried about how Sakura almost passed out earlier today...
It almost seems like Akiho getting entranced by this Clock book is similar to what's happening to Sakura... I think Sakura fell into Kaito's spell when she looked at that clock book, and it just hasn't been working as often as it does for Akiho because of how strong Sakura's magic is... and maybe the Clear Cards are partly a result of the spell that Kaito is putting her under. Maybe she's creating these cards with her own power, but doing it uncontrollably due to Kaito's spell. My "Kaito was a good guy all along" theory is that he knew about Sakura's cards becoming transparent, and he's doing this to help her make replacement cards... The "Kaito is a villain" theory is that he's put Sakura under his control, probably with the help of Akiho and the Clock Book somehow... Like maybe these shards of glass that Sakura is turning into cards are Kaito's magic items, and by controlling Sakura, he also controls all of the new cards she creates with that glass, so essentially he's the one that is capturing these new cards.
Akiho tells Kaito she heard the sound of a clock just now... a much bigger one than the stopwatch he's carrying. Then her stomach starts rumbling.
It appears the clock in your belly is going off.Akiho runs off, embarrassed as hell. Then Kaito says
It's wonderful that your friend gave you that book.
I hope you can become even better friends with Sakura-san.
Then the scene jumps to night time at Tsukimine shrine gate. Sakura is wearing a flame dress outfit, and Li, Tomoyo, and Kero are all with her.
I can't believe ya sensed a card this late at night...
It does kinda bring back memories, though.
Now that you mention it, this was where I captured the first Clow Card, The Fly.
This is basically the birthplace of Cardcaptor Sakura!Kero is looking away while Sakura goes on about how pushy and he was to her back when she first started.
The Fly was huge, so I jumped on, out of desperation, but now that I think about it, what if I had fallen off?
But ya didn't fall off! Precisely why I never had a doubt about you.
If Sakura-chan had refused to help you, would it have dissolved the contract?
Well, once a magic contract is formed, it can't be broken, unless something really serious happens.
Due to all this discussion of the past, this new card takes the form of a flaming version of the Fly card. Sakura tries using Aqua against it, which takes the form of an aqua bird... This looks more like a Pokemon battle right now.
Aqua loses against it, and then Syaoran steps up and says he'll fight this thing while Sakura uses Flight to go in and capture it while it's distracted. Syaoran again throws a ball of light out of his fist, and uses it to perform a Windy-like attack that constrains the fire bird. You didn't get to hear what Syaoran says to cast this spell, almost like it's trying to make you think there's some important plot detail related to his new magic abilities that they're hinting at.
Come to think of it, the full moon was out just now, and the moon would be the opposite element of this fire card...
Syaoran just goes silent when Sakura complements him on his new magic techniques. Kero mentions that this new set of cards seems to have the same basic elemental cards that the old ones did.
Syaoran tells Sakura and Tomoyo they should get home before anyone realizes they're gone late at night. Sakura says this is just like what she did in the past, and she set up something to fool her family... Meanwhile Touya and Yukito are at Sakura's door... Touya goes in and looks under the covers, and wonders why Sakura didn't use the Mirror card ability that he knows she has...
You shouldn't go into a girl's room without permission.
She's not in there. Looks like she and that yellow plushie took off again.
I guess Touya could already sense that Sakura wasn't in her room. He must've gotten his powers back in some form. Yue appears and tells him
Master will return home soon.
How do you know?
I sense her.
But sometimes, I cannot sense it. There are times when I cannot trace the mark of my master's power.
Yue doesn't know why he sometimes can't sense Sakura anymore... but I guess the reason he could now is because the full moon is out. Touya says that since Sakura's power has gotten so strong, even he can sense her now. Yue asks Touya about what he's going to use his new powers for, but he still refuses to tell him. Then he starts talking about how Yue and Yukito are similar, despite what Yue thinks.
You're so easy to read.
When you're angry or upset, it shows on your face, even if you don't say it.
Yuki told me your name. Oh, don't be mad at him. It seemed wrong not knowing your name, having known you for so long. So I asked him.
I cannot rebuke him in person.
I'll do whatever I can for my family... for Sakura. That's the one thing I'm sure about.
I know that.
So just wait a little longer, Yue.
Wow, this was the longest Touya+Yue scene the series has had so far I think. I guess it's hinting that both of these characters are gonna have an important role to fulfill soon.
