|Episode 14 - Sakura, the Shrine, and the Zoo|
Really great episode. The feels level of the latter half was on par with the greatest parts of the old series. Here's my rambling moment-to-moment reaction summary/screenshot log:
Meiling and Kero scared Sakura by staring at her as she woke up for some reason.
The next morning, everyone meets up at the shrine, and Tomoyo gushes over Sakura's new hairstyle that Meiling did for her. Meanwhile, Syaoran is late to show up because he's been trying to do some new magic with his Ranshinban thing. The thing he's creating almost looks like what happens to the Clear Cards whenever Sakura captures them.
Yamazaki is upset because his stories always get interrupted by something. After Syaoran shows up, he finally gets to tell his stories to someone who will listen.
Bridges are actually made from chopsticks.
About half-way through the episode, Sakura starts seeing Meiling turn into a cat again, as well as all her other friends turning into animals... None of them acknowledge it, and instead they start talking in animal noise puns. Then when Sakura mentions it to Syaoran, who isn't affected, they all get warped into this grassy plains area. Syaoran isn't there anymore, but Kero is. I don't know if Kero will be able to do anything to help Sakura this time though, but we'll see.
Sakura senses a card's presence but it isn't coming from anywhere in particular, it's all throughout this entire area. She tries to approach her friends who are turning more into animals, and they start running away. They look so goofy, like they're in mascot costumes and they're all wearing a very neutral expression. They go and hide near a big tree, and then a thunder cloud shows up and destroys the tree and it's about to land on everyone.
I knew as soon as I saw a hand using some magic crystal thing, Syaoran comes in to save everyone with his time stop move. Just like when he used to use the TIME card, this ability takes a lot out of him. He grabs onto Sakura for support, and tries to help her figure out what to do... Sakura realizes that she was thinking about taking everyone to the zoo instead of the shrine, and that thought kind of triggered this to happen. I'm thinking this is the equivalent of the CREATE card, or ILLUSION...
My magic's effect will soon wear off... You have to think.
I want everyone... to go back to our own world.
Then, wish hard for that, Sakura...This scene is so great, it's just like how Syaoran used to support Sakura in the 3rd season...
This is really cool... We've seen Sakura use her powers plenty of times to transform her key, and capture or transform or use her cards, but I think this is the first time we've seen Sakura use non-card-based magic to save everyone like Syaoran often does.
Then she sees the card's essence floating in front of her, and captures it without any trouble at all. It's the Mirage card. Everyone forgets what happened when they turn back to normal, or maybe to them they just noticed Sakura and Syaoran went missing. But Meiling seems to know what's going on and she helps make up a story to explain where Sakura and Syaoran have been. I think she knows something is up when she sees Syaoran exhausted from using powerful magic.
I don't know how Syaoran saw what was going on and broke into the Mirage's world... like maybe everyone but him disappeared from the real world after Sakura called out their animal features, and then he managed to figure out where the card's barrier was and broke into it? That would be cool, if Syaoran actually managed to learn to sense the Clear Cards now too.
Syaoran's role in this arc has really been interesting so far. Like at first he wasn't involved much at all but now he's becoming almost as important to the plot as Sakura and Akiho. And it's like Syaoran's support is a vital component to Sakura realizing the full potential of her powers...
Meiling talks to Syaoran after... he tells her that she's always been useful even though she doesn't have magic powers (calling back to that one ep from season 3 where Meiling was upset about that)... and Meiling reminds him that he still needs to tell Sakura what she thinks of that new hairstyle, lol Meiling obviously want to hear his thoughts on that too.
Sakura tells Tomoyo and Kero that this Mirage card brought her thoughts to life. Syaoran helped her focus and change everyone back by calming her mind... Kero mentions that it must be a lot harder to actually use all that different magic that the Li clan has than to learn it. Sakura tells them that now that these cards have started coming closer to hurting people, she's more determined than ever now to stop them.
I want to get stronger.</spoiler>
