|Episode 13 - Sakura and Welcome Back, Meiling|
The new opening theme has some nice imagery, and the song is very catchy and feels more like the 2nd OP theme in the first series.
These full body character drawings are ehh... not the greatest quality this show has been.
Sakura is talking to Chiharu about cheerleading practice, and thankful that Kero didn't come with her to school for once since she's always embarrassed by him talking in his sleep. Suddenly, she gets a message from Meiling, who came to visit earlier than expected.
Syaoran didn't expect to see her either, and says he now has to go shopping for food because he only has enough for himself. He asks Meiling if she's on a diet, and for some reason, Sakura is surprised by him saying the word "diet" and he apologizes for it. (idk I guess that's some kind of Japanese double meaning or something)
Meiling says the reason Syaoran won't need to buy food is because she's inviting herself to stay at Sakura's place instead. Later when she's in Sakura's room, Fujitaka calls, and Meiling takes the phone and sounds really mature while talking to him about staying here.
Sakura brings out some cookies out of literally nowhere to ease the tension between Meiling and Kero (oh, these are the cookies that Akiho brought her, and they were just sitting there on her desk, nevermind). They start talking about Akiho, and Meiling brings up that her living all on her own in Japan with a butler is just like what Syaoran did.
The scene switches to Yukito's house after Sakura mentions that Touya is staying at his place. This is just a nice scene of the two of them hanging out like they always do. Yukito asks Touya what he meant when he said earlier "There's something new that I can do."
I don't know when it'll happen, but when it does, you'll know.
wow, Yukito is literally a pencil when it shows his full body as he floats in the air and transforms into Yue. This character art quality has definitely taken a dive since the first episode.
Yue catches on that Touya's power is slowly returning to him... But Touya won't tell him what his new powers are until "the time comes".
Sakura complements Meiling's cooking as her and Kero are fighting.
Being complemented so openly is a little unsettling.
I guess that means no one normally gives ya complements.
Later, Meiling brings up Syaoran and makes Sakura embarrassed. Then Sakura says she wonders if Syaoran is lonely living in Japan without his mother and Wei... Meiling says that he has a lot of things to do at home with his responsibility as the 2nd strongest member of the Li family, and that coming back to Japan is something he's always wanted to do.
This background music suddenly... it's so soothing... Sakura talks about how she noticed something's been on Syaoran's mind since he got here, but she never asked him about it.
Meiling says in Chinese:
It's hard when you're both too important to each other.
Ah there we go... I was starting to wonder if this episode would even have a new card... Meiling suddenly starts turning into a cat. At first Sakura thinks it's a costume that she suddenly put on out of nowhere. Then she rubs her eyes and Meiling is back to normal. The cat stuff keeps appearing on and off.
Suddenly it cuts to Akiho reading a book with some familiar imagery on the cover... she tells Kaito she's reading a part where a girl turns into a cat.
Alice finds out and tries to tell everyone, but they instantly disappear.Kaito:
I look forward to hearing the rest of that story.
oh, so I guess this episode doesn't have a new card. This must mean the next episode is probably gonna dedicate more time into the Card Captor portion of the show instead of shoving it into the last 5 minutes of a slice of life episode.
I like this new ending sequence better than the last one, those character drawings in the last one looked a little weird to me (I also don't the 3rd ending animation of the first series for that reason). Kero, Spinny, and Momo look really cute in this one. Momo has only been shown as a stuffed animal up to this point.
