|I completely forgot about this other small field just south of Castle Town... it's very courtyard-like, just like the west Castle Town entrance. there's a giant hole in the ground to the west, that drops off into the easternmost part of Lake Hylia, as well as a cliff overlooking Lake Hylia that I don't remember AT ALL. You can actually jump off here into Lake Hylia if you want. |
So like altogether Lake Hylia connects from 4 possible different paths... 2 of them are from Lanayru's upper land (this field I'm on is still Lanayru).. 1 is from Faron's upper land, and 1 is from Zora's River... and the Zora's River path branches off into a shorter and longer river (that make up the flying and boating minigames), which join up at Upper Zora River, and then split off again into Zora's Domain and North Lanayru Field... and Zora's Domain also has a ground path to North Lanayru Field the only path to the northwestern Snowpeak province...
There's a Goron here that wants to get through to Faron, but there's an unbreakable rock wall in the way... he says he can break through it if you get him some hot springwater (yeah it should be completely obvious now that this is a trading quest chain sort of deal)
oh and of course there's a lot more people to talk to in Castle Town during the day... (and I haven't even finished talking to everyone at night yet... sheesh this game really doesn't pull any punches with its side content),, most people in south road are just telling you where the bar is, cuz that's the place where most swordsmen around here go to hang out. one guard is talking to this girl about Jovani, which is that girl's boyfriend... and that girl is giving him a missing person report for this Jovani.
the groups of people to talk to/look at in the central plaza are really interesting... like there's this one kid who walks around and sometimes stops to look into the fountain... and there's this musical band playing on the side of the street, who you can't talk to, and one NPC comes up and stops to listen to them... I go into the shop on the east side and OMG... this looks GORGEOUS. Like seriously this is the most gorgeous interior decor I've seen yet in this game. also there's a kid outside of this place who will shine your shoes for 10 rupees... lol I bet coming in here with dirty boots will get you yelled at. This shop sells arrows, potions, all types of bombs, and magic armor... the shop owner gives really fancy descriptions of all the items and sells them for thousands more than you can carry.
Finally at Telma's bar... Illya is so worried about Prince Ralis that she doesn't care about the sudden reunion with Wolf... Telma tells her about a Shaman in Kakariko who knows how to treat Zoras and Gorons... and the castle guards offer to escort them there, but then back out when Telma reminds them that the only way to Kakariko right now is to go from the north and cross Eldin Bridge... a place full of fearsome beasts...
(actually I meant west and south across Lanayru Bridge and around that way... Telma has the keys to open the gates between the provinces)
Telma sees Link still standing there after the guards ran away, she says "there's a swordsman that hasn't left, he'll do the job."... she can already tell that Wolf and Illya know each other, and she tells him that this girl can't even remember her own name.
holy shit... that horse carraige escorting mission was INTENSE...dealing with the leader moblin was easy enough.. just shoot him a couple times with your bow (the first time you fought him, you didn't have a bow so it was a lot harder)...but then after that, having to fight off boar-riding, fire arrow shooting bokoblins and birds dropping bombs... and the bombs scare the horse carraige in to running in circles... it almost seemed like I was gonna get game over, then I realized I could use the gale boomerang on the bokoblins while horse-riding, which stuns them for a bit and takes some of their arrows, so you can easily restock and kill all the enemies with your bow.
Colin is sad that Illya lost her memory, then the chief cheers him up.. Telma invites Link to join the secret Hyrule-saving task force group she is in... and tells him about the secret passage into the castle from her safe haven, the bar.
the atmosphere in this next scene is just phenomenal... you see the ghost of Queen Rutella in Kakariko Village and follow her to the graveyard... that gravestone with the Zora symbol on it vanishes and reveals a secret small tunnel to a pond, where the grave of King Zora is... after this next amazing speech by Rutella where she gives you the Zora Armor... Midna's shadow comes out and reminds Wolf that nothing will be resolved if they don't go and get that last piece of the Fused Shadow. It is the only thing that can defeat Zant. With him still around, bad things will just keep happening..
and yeah there are some underwater rocks here too just like at the Lanayru spring
Telma is now hanging out with the chief in his sanctuary...
almost forgot about that lookout platform... an easy to miss door that you can go in from central plaza. there are Gorons here selling overpriced shop items... they wanted to set up shop inside the castle inner walls but the guards aren't letting anybody through... some people have different things to say now, such as praising Wolf for helping that Zora kid when none of the guards would...
lmao those conspiracy gossipers at the upper part of the south road are great... one of them is talking to you about Hyrule's history of conflict, and the (correct) theory that these recent troubles are caused by the shadows of those conflicts... the guy in a weird hat mentions how weird it is that nobody has seens Princess Zelda in such a long time..
Telma's bar says its closed, but you can go in and eavesdrop on the 3 unknown characters (a guy with glasses who REALLY likes my "Legendary Hero style gear".. a young woman who tries to shoo you away by being rude to you, and an old man who blatantly tells you to go away. in there having a meeting, talking about investigating why Zoras Domain froze and what happened to fix it. They all act cold to Wolf because they don't know him and he wasn't invited.
oh, and I think I see the path leading into the castle... it's barred off and behind the table where these guys are having their meeting.
... and that's about everything there is to do now before the 3rd dungeon...
I went and did the first part of the Lakebed Temple... up until defeating the frog boss and getting the clawshot from it. This place has a REALLY great atmosphere, especially the underwater parts... and the wall textures are so artsy, they remind me of a fancy hotel pool area or something... and the water is SO sparkly when a light current is going...
